Georgia - Middle Class Study

Economists and politicians alike often underline the importance of the middle class for a country’s economic and social progress, as it can foster the accumulation of human capital and savings as well as the diversification and extension of markets.

For a country like Georgia, whose economy is still under transition and thus prone to economic crises, these qualities are of utmost importance. Yet, so far, only few studies have explored the development of the country’s middle class. Merab Kakulia’s and Nodar Kapanadze’s study on the Georgian middle class fills this gap and provides readers with an overview of its distinctive profile and dynamics.
