Participation and Democracy

Social development has risen to varying degrees across the South Caucasus since the region’s three countries gained independence from the Soviet Union. To achieve further democratization in each of these countries, prerequisites include the development of participatory mechanisms and the cultivation of an inclusive, pluralistic political culture. The FES provides civic education, capacity building, and analytical tools to these ends. With strong focuses on the regions and on progressive actors on the center-left of the political spectrum, the FES works to strengthen and support civil society in the South Caucasus.
